In Initial D season 2 episode 9, titled "Act. 9 Birth of a New Eight-Six," the focus shifts to the protagonist's best friend, Itsuki. After repeatedly losing races against the new and improved cars of the other racers in the area, Itsuki decides that he needs to upgrade his car if he wants to keep up with them. A chance encounter with a legendary street racer named Wataru provides Itsuki with the opportunity to buy a used Toyota Sprinter Trueno, the same kind of car that the protagonist, Takumi, drives.

Itsuki is thrilled with his new purchase and spends the entire night working on it, determined to get it ready for a race the next day. However, he quickly learns that his new car still has several issues that need to be addressed before it will be race-ready. With the help of Takumi's father, who is a professional mechanic, Itsuki is able to fix the car and get it ready for the race.

Meanwhile, Takumi is dealing with his own problems. His relationship with his love interest, Natsuki, has hit a rough patch. She is upset that Takumi spends all of his time racing and doesn't seem to have any other interests. Their conversation reveals some deeper issues in their relationship, including Natsuki's fear that Takumi will be hurt or killed while racing. Despite this, Takumi is determined to keep racing and continue to improve his skills.

The day of the race arrives, and Itsuki lines up with his new car. He faces off against a group of rival racers, all of whom have cars that are faster and more powerful than his. Itsuki's inexperience and lack of skill are apparent as he struggles to keep up with his opponents. However, his determination and passion for racing shine through, and he refuses to give up. With some encouragement and advice from his friends, Itsuki manages to put up a good fight and even surprises himself with his performance.

The episode ends with a sense of triumph and hope as Itsuki finally achieves his dream of owning a Trueno and participating in races with it. This episode is a great example of the show's themes of perseverance, passion, and the importance of friendship and camaraderie in the world of street racing. Itsuki's journey exemplifies the show's idea that anyone can become a skilled racer with enough determination and hard work. As always, the racing scenes are thrilling and intense, and the relationships between the characters continue to drive the plot forward.
