Ep 18. Otherwise Engaged

Otherwise Engaged is the 18th episode of the seventh season of the sitcom television series Last Man Standing. The episode was directed by Victor Gonzalez and written by Daley Haggar.

The episode starts off with Mike Baxter (Tim Allen) receiving a call during his morning coffee, and the caller on the other end turns out to be Vanessa's sister April (guest star Abigail Klein). April is known for being very indecisive, and this time she is calling Mike because she is about to get married and she is having second thoughts. She asks Mike to talk to her fiancé and persuade him to call off the wedding because she is "otherwise engaged."

Mike is confused and not sure what to do, but he ultimately agrees to talk to April's fiancé, Doug (guest star Kevin Farley). When he arrives at Doug's workplace, however, things start to go downhill. Doug is a quirky guy who works at a pet grooming shop and has trouble communicating. Mike tries to talk to him but quickly realizes that persuading him to call off the wedding won't be an easy task. Meanwhile, Vanessa (Nancy Travis) is dealing with some differences she has with Carol (guest star Tisha Custodio), who is her friend from church.

Throughout the episode, Vanessa and Carol face off regarding their different ideas about church traditions and beliefs. Vanessa thinks that Carol's strict adherence to traditional church customs is outdated and unnecessary. Carol, on the other hand, thinks Vanessa's lack of enthusiasm towards church traditions is an act of rebellion. Their differences put a strain on their friendship, but they end up finding a middle ground and resolving their issues.

Mike, on the other hand, has not made any progress with Doug. He tries to understand Doug's perspective and realizes that he is a very kind and simple guy who truly loves April. Mike realizes that he cannot talk him out of the wedding, so he decides to support the couple instead. He helps Doug plan the wedding, and they all end up having fun together.

Towards the end of the episode, Doug and April's wedding takes place. Mike walks April down the aisle, and everyone is in attendance to watch the two get married. The ceremony is heartwarming and full of love. Everyone is happy for April and Doug.
