Logan, Jessica, and Rem are wandering on a vast desert with no vision of a way out. Meanwhile, they are being watched by a mysterious group of people known as the Collectors, who have taken a keen interest in their arrival in the area. The Collectors are a group of people who have made it their primary goal to collect artifacts from the past in order to preserve them; they live in a large underground city and have amassed an enormous quantity of historical artifacts that they have collected from all across the land.
Logan and his friends are taken prisoner by the Collectors after being ambushed by one of their squads. They are brought before the leader of the Collectors who enlists them in a dangerous mission to retrieve a lost historical artifact. In exchange, they will be given safe passage out of the desert.
The artifact is known as the 'Sunrunner', a powerful crystal that provides a steady, renewable energy source that was abandoned in a military research facility long ago. The research facility is now inhabited by mutants, and it is believed that the Sunrunner is now in their possession.
Logan, Jessica, and Rem embark on the mission, into the dangerous grounds of the mutants' territory. They encounter several mutants who are not at all happy to see them there; they are forced to use every ounce of their skills and knowledge to fight their way through and retrieve the Sunrunner.
Logan and his companions discover that the mutants already have the Sunrunner, and are too dangerous for them to take down alone. Rem, however, devises a plan, and they confront The Prodigal, who is in charge of the mutant settlement. The Prodigal is not pleased by their arrival at his settlement, and an intense standoff ensues.
As the stand-off worsens, Logan tries to convince The Prodigal to hand over the artifact. The Prodigal gives everyone a glimpse of the power of the Sunrunner, citing its ability to transform their entire village. The Prodigal agrees to hand over the Sunrunner but only if they return with him to help with the settlement's transformation.
Logan and his companions agree to help The Prodigal, but they quickly realize that this development may put them in even more danger. They arrive at the mutant settlement the next day, and the change is shocking. The mutants have used the power of the Sunrunner to transform their village into a peaceful haven from the dangers of the outside world.
Logan and his companions conclude their mission successfully by returning the Sunrunner to the Collectors. In return, the Collectors give them safe passage out of the desert. On the way out, Logan realizes they could use the Sunrunner of the mutants as a bargaining chip. The episode ends with Logan telling his companions they have to return to the mutants' village to make a deal.
