McHale's Navy season 1 episode 18, titled "One of Our Engines Is Missing," is a classic military comedy that follows the antics of Lieutenant Commander Quinton McHale and his mischievous crew of PT-73 in the South Pacific during World War II.

As the episode begins, the PT-73 is out on patrol, and everything seems to be going smoothly until they hear a loud bang coming from the engine room. Chief Engineer Willy Moss (played by John Wright) investigates and discovers that one of the engines is missing, leaving them stranded in the middle of the ocean.

Meanwhile, Captain Binghamton (played by Joe Flynn) is eagerly anticipating a promotion to admiral and is determined to catch McHale in a moment of incompetence to further his own career. When he hears the news about PT-73's engine trouble, he sends Ensign Parker (played by Tim Conway) to investigate.

Parker, a well-meaning but bumbling officer, manages to fall overboard and lose his trousers in the process, causing him to walk around in his underpants for much of the episode. He eventually makes it back to the PT-73 and attempts to help McHale and his crew fix the engine.

As the crew works on the engine, they discover that it was stolen by a group of Japanese soldiers who are trying to use it to power their own boat. McHale and his men go on a stealth mission to retrieve the engine, which involves a lot of sneaking around and comedic moments.

In the end, the engine is recovered and the PT-73 is able to make it back to port, much to the chagrin of Captain Binghamton. However, McHale and his crew are able to get the last laugh when they present Binghamton with a fake commendation letter from the admiral, congratulating him on his "outstanding stupidity" and essentially calling him a fool.

Overall, "One of Our Engines Is Missing" is a classic episode of McHale's Navy that showcases the show's signature blend of slapstick comedy and military action. Fans of the series will enjoy seeing McHale and his crew get into yet another high jinks-filled adventure, while newcomers will be introduced to the quirky characters and wacky scenarios that made the show a beloved classic.
