Mermaid Melody: Pichi Pichi Pitch Season 1 Episode 3 Flickering Emotion
- April 19, 2003
As the episode starts, Lucia is singing at the pier while Hanon watches her. However, someone bumps into Lucia, causing her to fall and break her necklace. She tries to fix it, but it's beyond repair. Lucia gets upset and runs away, and Hanon follows her. When they come across a fountain, Lucia starts crying and states how she doesn't understand why she's crying.
Meanwhile, the villains run into a mermaid name Kaito and want her to join forces with them. Kaito requests that they help her find her lost sister, who was taken away by humans. The villains agree to help her but not before revealing their plans to destroy the mermaids. Kaito hides this information from them and pretends to be on their side.
Back in the human world, Lucia is still upset about her broken necklace and doesn't understand why it matters so much to her. Hanon's explanation of sentimental value helps Lucia come to terms with her feelings. Afterwards, they hear a girl singing and go to investigate. It's a girl named Rina who is part of a choir that Lucia is interested in joining. However, the choir's leader doesn't allow mermaids to join.
Lucia and Hanon decide to spy on the choir leader's practice and hear her say some cruel things about mermaids. Their reactions cause the choir leader to become suspicious of their identity. She decides to test them by having them sing in front of her. Hanon passes the test, but Lucia's voice turns horrible when she loses her confidence because of the missing necklace. The choir leader kicks out Lucia and Hanon.
Kaito, the villains, and a couple of humans are searching for Kaito's sister when they run into Lucia and Hanon. Kaito recognizes the pendant that Lucia is wearing as the one her sister used to wear. She assumes that Lucia stole it and attacks her. Hanon tries to protect Lucia but gets taken away instead. Lucia follows Kaito and the villains to their hideout, where she sees Hanon with them.
Lucia transforms into her mermaid form with the help of her fellow mermaid friend, Rina, and tries to rescue Hanon. However, the villains have set up a trap, and the mermaids get caught. Before the villains can harm them, Kaito reveals her plan to them, telling them that she was just pretending to be on their side to find her sister and that she knew all along about their plan to destroy the mermaids. Kaito fights against the villains, and the mermaids escape.
After the fight, Kaito thanks Lucia and her friends for their help and gives Lucia a new necklace. Lucia is grateful and happy again, and she and Hanon go back to the human world. They run into the choir leader, who apologizes for her behavior and invites them to join the choir. Lucia agrees, and they all sing together.
Overall, this episode focuses on Lucia's emotions. It shows how important sentimental value can be and how losing something can affect one's emotions. It also introduces Kaito, a new mermaid character, and shows how she has her own motivations and goals. The episode ends on a positive note, with the mermaids making new friends and resolving conflicts.
