Ep 26. 2018 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Widebody & 2018 Lexus LC 500

  • March 2, 2018

In this episode of Motorweek, we take a look at two exciting cars from very different ends of the spectrum - the 2018 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Widebody and the 2018 Lexus LC 500.

First up, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat Widebody. This is essentially a wider and more aggressive version of the already potent Hellcat, with a wider track and fenders that bulge out by 3.5 inches on each side. The result is a car that looks like it's ready to conquer any road or track - and with its 707 horsepower supercharged V8 engine, it has the performance to back up that attitude.

Motorweek's testers were understandably excited to take the Hellcat Widebody out for a spin, and they were not disappointed. They found it to be a "bona fide street machine" that delivers performance in spades. The car's beefed-up brakes, suspension, and steering all help to keep it planted on the road, even under hard acceleration and braking.

But what really sets the Hellcat Widebody apart from the regular Hellcat is the way it handles corners. The wider stance gives it more stability, while the specially-tuned adaptive suspension and upgraded tires make it more agile and responsive. Overall, Motorweek found that the Hellcat Widebody is a car that "delivers driving excitement in spades."

Next, we have the 2018 Lexus LC 500. This car is a bit of a departure for Lexus - it's a sleek and stylish luxury coupe that's designed to compete with high-end sports cars like the Porsche 911 and Mercedes-Benz AMG GT. But it's not just a pretty face - the LC 500 packs a punch under the hood as well.

The car's 5.0-liter V8 engine delivers 471 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque, which translates into a 0-60 time of just 4.4 seconds. Motorweek's testers found the engine to be smooth and refined, with a satisfying growl when the throttle is opened up.

But the LC 500 isn't just about straight-line speed. It's also a capable handler, with a well-tuned chassis and a suspension that can be adjusted to suit the driver's preferences. The car's rear-wheel drive setup also helps to give it a sporty feel on the road.

Inside, the LC 500 is a luxurious and comfortable place to be. The cabin is beautifully designed, with high-quality materials and plenty of features to keep the driver and passenger entertained and comfortable on long drives. And while it's not the most practical car out there (the rear seats are tiny and the trunk is small), Motorweek found it to be a "well-rounded grand touring machine" that's perfect for cruising in style.

Overall, Motorweek found both the 2018 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Widebody and the 2018 Lexus LC 500 to be impressive vehicles in their own right. The Hellcat is a muscle car that's all about pure performance, while the LC 500 is a luxury grand tourer that's more about style and refinement. But both are sure to put a smile on any gearhead's face - and that's what really matters.
