Ep 19. The Maiden's Circle

Natsume and Nyanko-sensei decide to help Nanase by finding the spirit who performed the maiden's circle and convincing it to release her. They track down the spirit, whose name is Toko, and find out that she has been performing the ritual for years. Toko tells them that she offers her blessings to humans in exchange for a small gift, such as a piece of fruit. She doesn't realize the harm she is causing, and agrees to release Nanase when she understands the danger.

As they leave Toko, Natsume and Nyanko-sensei run into a group of spirits who are angry that they interfered with the maiden's circle. They attack, and just when it seems like Natsume and Nyanko-sensei will be overwhelmed, another powerful spirit named Matoba appears. Matoba is a hunter of spirits who believes that they should be captured and used for their power. He sees Natsume as a threat to his mission, and their encounter sets up a conflict that will be explored further in future episodes.

As they make it back to Nanase, they realize that she has disappeared and may have been pulled into the spirit world. Natsume tracks her down and finds that she is in a dreamlike state, unable to move or react to the world around her. He realizes that he has the ability to enter her dream and help her find her way back to the real world.

In the dream world, Natsume encounters Nanase's spirit guide, a rabbit, who takes him through various challenges as he tries to wake Nanase up. Meanwhile, Nyanko-sensei and Matoba are left to deal with the dangerous spirits who are targeting them.

After a series of challenges, Natsume is able to wake Nanase up and lead her back to the real world. She realizes the danger she was in and thanks Natsume for saving her. As they say their goodbyes, Natsume reflects on how much he has learned about spirits and the world he lives in.
