Red Data Girl is an anime television program based on a series of fantasy novels by Noriko Ogiwara. The show focuses primarily on Izumiko, a shy girl who has been raised in a shrine. Izumiko has some unique traits, one of which is always wearing red glasses that her missing mother gave her. These glasses prevent her from seeing too much. If she does not wear these glasses spirits, inhumane creatures that pose as humans, and the like, are visible to her. Another quirk is that any electronic device that is touched by Izumiko is ruined. Izumiko has been sheltered her entire life but at fifteen she decides that she wants to live in the city and attend high school. Her guardian sends his son, Miyuki to accompany and to protect her. Miyuki is reluctant at first but as he gets to know Izumiko he falls into line with his role. As the show progresses Izumiko finds out more and more about herself and becomes more confident. She surrounds herself with characters that support her and challenge her at the same time.
