On her first day in the criminal investigation office, Maria Krapivina finger-prints a thief called Buffet who was arrested during the attempted robbery of a jewelry store. During the interrogation, Buffet attacks Masha and whispers to her that there's a traitor in the police. The next day, the criminals try to rescue Buffet during a prisoner transfer and Shvedov saves Masha's life.

Kogout and Buffet meet in the church where the last statue is located. Kogout hits Buffet with a knife and leaves. Masha appears too late and Buffet dies in her arms. He tells her the address and the place where the first statue is hidden. With the help of his evidence she manages to catch Kogout with the treasure. The good name of Chebaturin is restored.

Gutya manages to find what is hidden in the telegrams. Along with Masha, she walks through the cinema halls to learn where the criminals gather. But Masha rushes to make peace with Shvedov who is coming to Moscow the next day. Gutya goes to the theaters alone. In the morning, Masha finds evidence that Shevdov is a traitor.

Palulya is captured during his assault on a liquor factory. Shvedov does the interrogation in an unfair way and Masha quarrels with him. Gutya learns that Kogout and Holst are the same person and that he stole the Masonic treasure from Meltzer - a priceless golden star with a brilliant. That's what Buffet, Oper and Kogout are after, and each of them has his own aim.

The investigation leads Masha and her department to Pavlovsk. She faces Buffet there while he was looking for one of the statues in a local museum. During the pursuit he grabs Masha's gun, but doesn't shoot her, instead calling her a daughter. Masha learns that Buffet was a policeman before the war and that her parents and Buffet's wife were evacuated on the same train.

Gutya helps Masha in the investigation on her own initiative. Masha's private life is a mess. She can't chose between the two colleagues - Petrov and Shvedov. Shvedov seems to hide something from her and she starts following him. Masha learns that her father lies to her, and that he was Buffet's lawyer before the war. This is a real shock for her.

Gutya keeps on trying to build Masha's private life. She arranges dancing party and invites the police personnel. This investigation is an interesting game for Gutya. Masha's own investigation about the statues gets us back to the year 1940. That's when the King hid a good ransom and ciphered the place using the statues.

Masha's friend Gutya takes part in the private investigation and teaches Masha how to build loyalty with Shedov. Paulina allows Masha to work with her own version regarding the Buffet case, Masha being certain that he was after a certain statue in the jewelry shop. She gets acquainted with an art history professor from Czechoslovakia to find significant information about the statues.
