Ep 4. Smoke & Shadows

In Paranormal State season 2 episode 4, titled "Smoke & Shadows," the team investigates a hotel in Portland, Oregon that has been experiencing strange happenings. Guests have reported seeing shadows and hearing mysterious noises throughout the building, as well as smelling smoke despite there being no source for a fire.

The team is led by Ryan Buell, who founded the Paranormal Research Society at Pennsylvania State University. He is joined by a group of other investigators, including demonologist Lorraine Warren and psychic Chip Coffey.

When they arrive at the hotel, they begin their investigation by interviewing employees and guests who have experienced paranormal activity. One guest reports seeing a figure standing at the foot of his bed in the middle of the night, while another describes feeling a cold breeze passing through the room despite all windows being closed. The team also learns that the hotel was built on the site of a former funeral home, adding to the possibility of there being paranormal activity.

The team sets up their equipment throughout the hotel, including cameras and audio recorders. They decide to split up into teams and investigate different areas of the hotel simultaneously. Ryan and Lorraine lead one team, while Chip and another investigator, Sergey, lead the second team.

During their investigation, both teams experience unusual occurrences. Ryan and Lorraine hear knocking sounds and feel cold spots throughout the hotel, while Chip and Sergey smell smoke in one of the rooms. They investigate further and find that the smoke smell is coming from a wall, but there is no source for a fire. This leads the team to believe that the paranormal activity is somehow connected to the former funeral home that was on the property.

As the investigation continues, the team uses their equipment to gather evidence of paranormal activity. They capture shadow figures on camera and hear unexplained voices on their audio recorders. The team also conducts a séance to try to communicate with any spirits that may be present in the hotel.

As the night goes on, the team becomes convinced that there is indeed paranormal activity occurring in the hotel. They share their findings with the hotel staff and advise them on ways to potentially reduce the activity, such as smudging with sage and bringing in a priest to bless the building.

The episode closes with the team reflecting on their investigation. While they may not have all the answers, they are grateful for the opportunity to help people who are experiencing paranormal activity and to hopefully shed some light on the mysteries of the unknown.
