In the first episode of season 3 of Pawn Stars, entitled "Peeping Pawn," viewers are brought back into the world of the famous Las Vegas pawn shop, Gold and Silver Pawn Shop. The episode introduces a range of interesting items that are brought into the shop by potential sellers. As usual, Rick Harrison manages to use his well-honed skills of negotiation, wheeling and dealing to make some great purchases, much to the repayment of his interest in old, rare, or valuable items.
The episode starts with a seller walking into the pawn shop with an antique telescope. Although the telescope seems ordinary to the eye, Rick and his team determine that it could be worth big bucks because of its history. The seller bought it at an estate sale and is looking for around $5,000 for it. The item creates a lot of interest in the shop and the appraiser's analysis is just as intriguing as the telescope itself. The appraiser discovers that the telescope was owned by a marine who fought in the Battle of Trafalgar. Rick and the team are in awe of the history behind the telescope, which makes it a valuable item.
Later on, a lady visits the shop to sell a silver spoon that belonged to a member of the Maharaja family. Rick and his team are naturally excited as silverware has a lot of value. The seller hopes to get around $200 for the antique spoons, but the team vies to settle on a fairer price. The spoons have a unique history and show an intricate design that's indicative of Indian crafts.
The next seller that comes to the shop proves to be rather interesting to watch. The seller, a man from New Zealand, brings in a rat trap, which shocks the team as they were expecting a high-value item. The rat trap, however, has some history to it. The seller says it was passed down to him through generations, and he's hoping to get a decent value for the old-fashioned rat trap. Nevertheless, the team decides to play along and tries to find a value for the item. Since the item is rare, the team decides to purchase it and they settle on a fair price.
As if the rat trap wasn't enough, a seller walks in with a strange instrument. The instrument is revealed to be a theremin, which was invented in 1920, and the only instrument that is played without any physical touch. The seller explains that it was owned by his father who bought it from a yard sale. The team isn't sure of its true worth but promises to offer a fair price for the rare instrument.
Lastly, a seller comes in with a collection of antique Playboy magazines that belonged to his late father. The seller hopes to get a fair price for the items which are 30 years old. Among the Playboy magazine issues, there are a few rare issues that catch the attention of the team. Although the collection isn't incredibly valuable, the buyer does manage to sell a few of the more valuable issues.
As the episode comes to an end, we see how the sellers are surprised by the value of their items when the team appraises them. But, as it is with every episode of Pawn Stars, Rick and his team end up offering a price and making a profit. "Peeping Pawn" is an interesting episode that doesn't fail to impress. The appraisals of the items are intriguing, and the audience gets an intimate look at how the pawn shop operates when it comes to buying and selling items. Overall, this episode will keep viewers on the edge of their seats as they anticipate how the pawn shop experts will evaluate and offer a price for the unique, rare, and antique items brought into the shop.
