Pokemon Season 16 Episode 4 Drayden Versus Iris: Past, Present, and Future!

Ash and Pikachu visit the Opelucid Gym in order for Ash to battle against the Gym Leader and Dragon Master, Drayden. However, they soon learn that Drayden is not currently there and that Iris, a former traveling companion of Ash's, has taken over the running of the Gym in his absence. Ash and Iris are both surprised to see each other again and catch up, with Iris introducing Ash to her new Pokemon, Excadrill, which she obtained after leaving the group.

As they talk, they come to learn that Drayden was once Iris' mentor and trained her in the ways of dragon-type Pokemon. Iris reveals that she hopes to become a Gym Leader like Drayden one day and is currently working towards that goal. Ash is supportive of her ambitions and the two reminisce about their time traveling together.

Soon after, Drayden returns and Ash is able to challenge him to a battle. The two trainers face off and show off their impressive skills and strategies. However, during the battle, Drayden begins to reminisce on his past experiences with Iris and how he trained her as a young girl. This causes him to become distracted and Ash is able to take advantage and land a decisive victory, earning his eighth Unova Gym Badge.

After the battle, Drayden reflects on his own past experiences and how they shaped him into the person he is today. He realizes that he should not hold onto his past and that it is important to embrace the present and the future. Iris is inspired by his words and decides to continue working towards becoming a Gym Leader, while Drayden continues to mentor her. Ash thanks Iris and Drayden for the journey and the battle, and the group part ways, eager for their next adventure.
