  • January 16, 1994

Junior & The Camp is the eleventh episode of the first season of Problem Child, a comedy series airing on NBC channel. The show, which first aired on April 3, 1993, revolves around Junior, a mischievous and troublesome young boy who creates chaos in everyone’s life. Created by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, the show stars Michael Oliver, John Ritter, and Amy Yasbeck.

In this episode, Junior’s summer vacation plans of watching television and playing video games are dashed when he is sent to Camp Okawaka, a summer camp, by his parents. Junior is apprehensive about going to camp, but his parents are hopeful that it will be good for him. They want their son to be more disciplined, less selfish, and more considerate towards others.

At the camp, Junior has a hard time adjusting to the new environment and the rules. He doesn’t like the camp’s strict schedule, the required activities, and the food. The other kids at the camp also don’t like him, calling him a troublemaker and ignoring him. Junior tries to fit in by joining the activities and making friends, but his plans backfire, and he ends up causing more trouble than ever.

To make things worse, the camp counselor, who is supposed to look after Junior, is also fed up with his antics. Throughout the day, Junior makes a series of mistakes, including breaking the camp’s canoe, setting fire to the kitchen, and getting lost in the forest. When the camp counselor confronts Junior about his behavior, Junior responds with sarcasm and defiance.

As the days go by, Junior’s antics and pranks begin to catch up with him. He is confronted by a group of boys who threaten him, and a girl who tries to befriend him is still repulsed by his bad behavior. Junior’s counselor is at his breaking point, and Junior’s parents are notified about the situation. When his parents arrive at the camp, they are surprised to see that Junior’s behavior hasn’t changed. They decide to take him home.

During the car ride back home, Junior opens up to his parents about his experience at camp. He tells them how he tried to make friends, but everything backfired, and he was left all alone. He admits that he was wrong in his behavior and that he should have listened to the rules and respected others. His parents listen to him and tell him that they are proud of him for owning up to his mistakes.

When they arrive home, Junior’s parents announce that they have a surprise for him. They tell Junior that they have decided to take him on a trip to Hawaii, but only if he promises to be a good boy. Overjoyed at the prospect of going to Hawaii, Junior agrees to do anything his parents ask of him. The episode ends on a happy note with Junior and his family planning for their Hawaii trip.

In conclusion, Junior & The Camp is a delightful episode of Problem Child, which showcases the difficulties of fitting in, making friends, and adapting to new environments. It also emphasizes the importance of honesty, responsibility, and consideration towards others. The episode is well-written, and the acting is top-notch, making it a must-watch for fans of the show.
