Ep 4. Tom Arnold

In season 1 episode 4 of Running Wild With Bear Grylls, the adventurer and survivalist takes on comedian and actor Tom Arnold in the Moab Desert in Utah.

The episode begins with Arnold and Grylls meeting up at a remote location in the desert where they begin their journey. Grylls starts off by telling Arnold that they will be rappelling down a steep rock face and that they will have to rely on each other to make it through the challenging terrain.

Arnold, who admits to being apprehensive about the whole ordeal, musters up the courage to follow Grylls down the rock face. Once they make it to the bottom, they have to navigate through the rugged terrain, which includes scaling an immense boulder and crossing a narrow suspension bridge over a deep canyon.

The duo then comes across a source of water in the form of a stagnant pool, much to Arnold's relief. However, Grylls informs him that the water is infested with bacteria and parasites and that they must purify it before drinking it.

After setting up a rudimentary water filtration system, Grylls and Arnold continue on their journey, using ropes to cross a deep ravine.

As the day wears on, Arnold begins to feel the effects of the intense heat and physical exertion. Grylls tells him to find a shady spot to rest and refuel before continuing. Arnold reveals that he has struggled with addiction in the past and that he uses physical activity, such as running, to help keep him sober.

As they continue on, Grylls shows Arnold how to start a fire without matches, using a bow drill to create a spark. They also forage for food, including cactus fruit and a beetle larvae, which they cook over the fire.

The episode concludes with Grylls and Arnold rappelling down a sheer cliff face to their extraction point, where they are picked up by a helicopter and taken back to civilization.

Throughout the episode, Grylls and Arnold engage in candid and often humorous conversations, with Arnold recounting stories from his comedic career and personal life.
