Ep 8. Bad Blood

Jace struggles with some inner demons in the eighth episode of Shadowhunters Season 1, "Bad Blood." As he finally confronts his adoptive mother about his true origins and the secret she's been hiding for him, he slips deeper into a dark and dangerous place. Meanwhile, Simon tries to come to terms with his new identity as a vampire, while Clary uses her newly-discovered powers to try and find a way to save her mother from her mysterious coma.

The episode opens with Jace still reeling from his confrontation with Valentine and his mother Jocelyn. He's struggling to come to grips with the fact that Valentine is still alive, and that he might actually be his father. He's also dealing with the knowledge that Jocelyn has been keeping a secret from him for years, a secret that could change everything he thought he knew about who he is.

As Jace and Clary go on a mission to retrieve a powerful demon-slaying weapon from a mysterious shopkeeper, Jace becomes increasingly unmoored. He's haunted by strange dreams and visions, and he begins to see Valentine everywhere he looks. The shopkeeper, a mysterious and powerful warlock named Magnus Bane, senses Jace's turmoil and offers to help him sort out his issues. But Magnus has his own agenda, and Jace may be playing right into his hands.

Meanwhile, Simon is still trying to figure out what his new existence as a vampire means for him. He's struggling to control his cravings for blood, and he's terrified that he might hurt someone without meaning to. Clary tries to help him by introducing him to a group of vampires who might be able to show him the ropes, but things quickly go sour when they realize that Simon is a daylighter, a vampire who can withstand sunlight. Suddenly, Simon's life is in danger, and he has to rely on Clary's quick thinking to survive.

As all of this is going on, Clary is also frantically searching for a way to save her mother, who is still in a mysterious coma. She discovers that her mother has been hiding a powerful magical artifact, and she believes that it might be the key to waking her up. With the help of her friends, Clary sets out on a dangerous mission to retrieve the artifact, only to discover that she's not the only one looking for it. A mysterious figure known only as the Circle is also after the artifact, and they'll stop at nothing to get their hands on it.

The episode ends with Jace in a dark and dangerous place, unsure of who he is or what he wants. He's haunted by the knowledge that Valentine might actually be his father, and he's struggling to come to terms with what that means for him. As he sinks deeper into his own darkness, his friends and allies begin to worry that he might be lost forever. Will Jace be able to find his way back to the light before it's too late?
