Shigurui: Death Frenzy is a Japanese anime series based off of the manga series of the same name. The series is based off of the first thirty two books in the series and thus comprises only half of the events told in the manga. The show was directed by Hiroshi Hamasaki with scripts by Seishi Minakami. The plot of the series revolves around the area of Shizuoka Prefecture in 1692. A enormous tournament is held at the imperious command of Lord Tadanaga, however, unlike the traditional tournaments where men would fight each other for the feudal lord's praise with wooden swords, the daimyo commands that all combat should be fought with steel.
