  • January 2, 2009

In episode 3 of Shugo Chara!, titled "Flaky and Fluffy, Leave it to Su!", we see the introduction of another Guardian Character named Su, belonging to the timid and worrisome character, Amu Hinamori. Su is a small, adorable, and pink-tinged character who expresses Amu's wish to be more playful and carefree, as well as her desire to help her friends more.

The episode begins with Amu and her friends, including her class representative, Tadase Hotori, and her crush, Ikuto Tsukiyomi, preparing for a school festival. However, Amu is not feeling particularly confident in her ability to help out, being a bit of a "flaky" character. This is where Su comes in, encouraging Amu to just be herself and enjoy the festival.

Meanwhile, a new character is introduced, Nadeshiko Fujisaki, who is a transfer student from Kyoto. Nadeshiko is immediately popular, impressing the class with her talent for traditional Japanese dance. However, it soon becomes apparent that Nadeshiko is hiding a secret, as she constantly excuses herself during breaks and seems to be running away from something.

As the festival approaches its peak, Amu and her friends notice that Nadeshiko is missing. They begin to search for her, with the help of Su, who shows a surprising amount of strength while carrying Amu on her back. They eventually find Nadeshiko in a nearby park, where it is revealed that she is actually a boy named Nagihiko Fujisaki, who cross-dresses in order to perform traditional dance, much to the surprise of Amu and her friends.

Nagihiko explains that he has always been interested in dance, but his grandfather disapproved, saying that boys should focus on sports instead. In order to continue pursuing his passion, Nagihiko began cross-dressing and going by Nadeshiko. He laments that he will have to quit dancing soon since his true identity has been revealed and he fears being ostracized by his classmates.

However, Amu and her friends rally around Nagihiko, accepting him for who he is and encouraging him to continue dancing, no matter what others may say. In the end, Nagihiko decides to perform in front of the whole school, revealing his true identity and earning the respect and admiration of his classmates.

"Flaky and Fluffy, Leave it to Su!" is a heartwarming episode about acceptance, self-expression, and the importance of being true to oneself. As usual, Shugo Chara! delivers a powerful message while keeping things light and entertaining, with adorable Guardian Characters and dynamic action scenes. Fans of the series will surely enjoy this episode and its exploration of a character struggling with their identity and finding acceptance in unexpected places.
