Ep 22. The Wire

Elim Garak, the Cardassian ex-spy, appears to be in excruciating pain and is found passed out in his shop by Dr. Julian Bashir. After examining Garak, Bashir notices that he has an implant in his brain. The implant, known as the wire, regulates Garak's pain and without it, he could die. During Garak's interactions with Bashir, he reveals details about his past as a spy for the Cardassians. However, his stories and motives are questionable. Garak claims he needs the wire removed, and Bashir attempts to find a way to do so without killing Garak. Bashir's investigation leads him to a dangerous, high-security facility, where he questions a Cardassian scientist about the wire's origins. Meanwhile, Chief O'Brien and Commander Sisko try to thwart a terrorist attack on Deep Space Nine. As tensions rise on the station, Garak's loyalties and past come into question, leaving both crew members and viewers wondering who to trust.
