In episode 5 of The Asterisk War season 1, Ayato and Julis are preparing for the upcoming Festa tournament. They run into a group of students from another school, headed by Lester MacPhail, who challenges them to a friendly mock battle. During the battle, Ayato and Julis discover that Lester has a powerful ability and begin to strategize on how to counter it.
Meanwhile, Claudia has assigned Saya to keep an eye on Ayato and Julis. Saya is conflicted by her loyalty to Claudia and her friendship with Ayato, but ultimately decides to help them prepare for the Festa. She introduces them to a group of powerful fighters who train them in defense and teamwork.
As the Festa approaches, tensions rise between the different schools. Ayato and Julis must not only prepare for their matches, but also navigate the politics and rivalries between the schools. Their next opponent is the powerful duo of Kirin Toudou and her partner, who have a history with Julis.
The episode ends with Ayato and Julis facing off against Kirin and her partner in a heated battle, with the fate of their school and their friendship on the line.
