The Galaxy Railways season 1 episode 9, titled "A Gallery of Memories," starts with a routine patrol mission, where the Space Panzer Grenadier Division is tasked with protecting a convoy. The convoy consists of delicate and valuable items of art, which are to be exhibited in a grand gallery on the Planet Arcanum.
The main character, Manabu Yuuki, who is a member of the brigade, is stricken with nostalgia when he realizes that one of the pieces in the shipment belongs to his family. He reminisces about his childhood days, and how his father had acquired a priceless artifact during a previous expedition. Manabu had not seen this piece of art for years, and it brought back a flood of recollections of his family and their relationship with art.
The convoy, however, runs into trouble when a notorious pirate group, the Ghost Fleet, attack them. The Space Panzer Grenadier Division quickly engages the pirates in a space battle. However, things go awry when the convoy slips into a wormhole, which leads them to an alternate dimension.
Separated from the rest of the brigade, Manabu crash-lands on a planet, where he meets a young girl named Miki who is taking care of a crumbling gallery. Miki also has a connection with the art world as her mother was an artist who passed away long ago. Miki shows him around the gallery, and as they go through the different exhibits, Manabu is once again filled with memories of his past. He tells her about his father's love for art and how he had acquired the art piece that they were transporting.
As they explore the exhibit, Miki and Manabu come across a peculiar painting that seems to be unfinished. A closer inspection of the painting reveals that it is a self-portrait of Miki's mother. Miki explains that it was left incomplete since her mother had passed away before she could finish it. Manabu is moved by Miki's story, and in a heartfelt gesture, he offers to help her complete the unfinished painting.
As they continue to work on the painting, Manabu gets restless and starts to worry about the other members of the brigade and the convoy. He decides to venture out to see if he can find any signs of rescue. He is surprised to see that the planet is made up of different fragments of other worlds in the galaxy, and that there are more galleries hidden among them.
Manabu's adventure leads him to an encounter with a band of fierce warriors from another planet. He is captured and taken to their leader though he eventually escapes. When he finds his way back to Miki and the unfinished painting, the Space Panzer Grenadier Division suddenly reappears in the alternate dimension, accompanied by the convoy of art pieces.
With the crisis now over, the brigade members depart, but not before Manabu has a chance to offer Miki and her poor gallery some help. He gives her some advice on how to run the gallery, as well as some money and additional paintings to exhibit. He is even able to secure new visitors for the gallery from among the convoy members.
