The Galaxy Railways is a Japanese animated television show about a railway company that sends flying trains to the far reaches of the Galaxy in order to deliver supplies. Throughout the course of the series the trains come under attack from aliens, monsters, and bandits. Our main character, Manuba Yuki has always wanted to join the Space Defense Force, which is the corporation that runs the famed Galaxy Railways. Manuba's father and brother both were on the Sirius Platoon, which is the same group Manuba wants to join. However, Manuba's mother is very much against him joining, as both Manuba's father and brother were killed during their service. However, Manuba goes against her wishes and joins and much to his joy is assigned to the Sirius Platoon. The Sirius Platoon's train is headed by an ex Union Pacific 4000 class locomotive built by the American Locomotive Company. In addition to their platoon there are three other platoons mentioned and are seen throughout the series run: These are the Spica the Cephus and the Vega platoons which deliver the goods to their respective galaxies. Joining Manuba in the Sirius Platoon is the headstrong Louise Fort Drake, Schwnalt Bulge, the unofficial Captain who has a "to hell with the rules" mentality that annoys Louise and the bullying Bruce J. Speed. At first none of the characters get along, but by the end of the series they are all willing to cooperate and standby each other when the going gets thick. Most of the stories in the series deal with complex and mature themes. Themes such as life and death and freewill and predestination are all dealt with in each episode as the crews work to complete their missions.
