Ep 1. Cat-White-Mashiro

In the first episode of The Pet Girl of Sakurasou, we are introduced to the main character, Sorata Kanda, a second-year student at Suimei University of the Arts. He's been living in the Sakurasou dormitory, a place for students who are deemed problematic by the school.

Sorata is tasked with bringing back a new resident of the dormitory, Shiina Mashiro, who has arrived in Japan from England. Sorata is hesitant, as he's not sure what to expect of his new roommate. Upon meeting her, he finds out that Mashiro is a famous artist, but she's also lacking in basic skills like dressing herself, cooking, and even holding basic conversations.

The first incident that sets the tone for the series happens in the very first scene. In it, we see Sorata taking care of all the cats that live in the dorm, who have been neglected by the other residents. He seems to be the only one who cares and is willing to take care of them.

Mashiro is also fascinated by the cats and decides to draw them. But in doing so, she ends up drawing them in a way that makes them look like white blobs. Thus her nickname "Cat-White-Mashiro" is born.

Throughout the first episode, we also meet some of the other residents of Sakurasou dormitory. There's Jin Mitaka, a playboy who has a crush on his childhood friend, Misaki Kamiigusa, an eccentric girl who's always dressed in cosplay; Ryuunosuke Akasaka, a recluse who never leaves his room and communicates with the outside world through his computer; and Nanami Aoyama, a hard-working girl who has dreams of becoming an actress.

Sorata quickly realizes that living in Sakurasou is not going to be easy. He's tasked with taking care of Mashiro and her lack of social skills while also dealing with the various personalities in the dorm. He's also determined to prove to himself and others that he's not just a "problem child" like the rest of the residents.

The Pet Girl of Sakurasou touches on themes of finding one's purpose in life, overcoming personal challenges, and the importance of supporting one another through difficult times. It's a heartwarming and humorous series that is sure to leave viewers feeling uplifted.
