When Andrew March, the new minister on the mountain moves into his house, he finds a skunk living under the floorboards. After getting sprayed by his unexpected visitor, Rev. March moves in with the Walton’s while his house airs out. During his stay however, Elizabeth develops a crush on him and soon writes him a love letter, and signs it “E”. Upon reading the letter, Andy thinks Erin wrote it, and soon discovers that the girl who has feelings for him is Elizabeth. After talking with him, Elizabeth soon becomes ashamed of her actions when Andy doesn’t share the same feelings. Meanwhile, the Baldwin sisters turn to Erin for help in turning their father’s journals into a novel and hopefully a movie starring Katherine Hepburn and Bette Davis. However, as they read the journals, Miss Emily learns that her beau Ashley Longworth wrote a letter to her, but was hidden by her papa. Furious at what was done, Emily decides to take down his picture. In doing so, she finds the letter and a ring to commemorate their first kiss.
