The Wildlife Docs season 3 episode 17, African Giraffe Rescue, follows the team of veterinarians and keepers at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay as they journey to South Africa to help save endangered giraffes. The episode begins with a look at the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, an organization dedicated to protecting giraffes in their natural habitat. The team from Busch Gardens joins forces with the Foundation to track down and examine giraffes in the wild.

The first giraffe the team encounters is a young male who has been injured by a lion. The vets work quickly to assess his injuries and determine the best course of action. They decide to administer antibiotics and watch him closely over the next few days to see how he responds. The team then moves on to search for other giraffes in the area, keeping a lookout for any signs of distress or illness.

As they are driving through the bush, the team spots a female giraffe with a strange growth on her neck. They manage to get close enough to dart her with a tranquilizer and begin the process of examining her. After determining that the growth is likely a tumor, the team decides to remove it surgically. The surgery is a success, and the giraffe is released back into the wild with a clean bill of health.

Next, the team receives a call about a giraffe who has fallen into a well. They rush to the scene to find the giraffe trapped at the bottom of the well, unable to escape. The team works quickly to devise a plan to rescue the giraffe without causing further harm. After several attempts, they are finally able to hoist the giraffe out of the well and onto solid ground. They examine her for injuries and determine that she is in good health, but understandably stressed from the experience.

The episode then takes a look at the work being done by the Giraffe Conservation Foundation to protect giraffes in the wild. The team meets with local villagers to discuss ways to prevent giraffes from being hunted and killed for their meat or hides. They also examine a giraffe reserve where a number of giraffes are being protected from poachers and other threats.

In the final segment of the episode, the team comes across a giraffe who has become trapped in a fence. They carefully cut away the wire and free the giraffe, taking the opportunity to examine her for injuries and illness. After determining that she is healthy, they release her back into the wild.

Throughout the episode, viewers are treated to stunning footage of giraffes in their natural habitat, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the important work being done by the dedicated team at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and the Giraffe Conservation Foundation. African Giraffe Rescue is a heartwarming and educational episode that will leave viewers with a newfound appreciation for these amazing animals.
