In The Wonder Years season 1 episode 18, titled "Goose Grease," Kevin, Paul, and Winnie compete in a science fair. Kevin and Paul decide to make a volcano but they struggle to make it work. Meanwhile, Winnie creates a project about geese and how to make goose grease. Kevin and Paul are convinced that it is an absurd idea but Winnie seems determined to make it work.
As the competition approaches, Kevin and Paul try everything to make their volcano work, but nothing seems to work. They even try to extract some of Winnie's goose grease to try to make their volcano erupt, but to no avail. On the other hand, Winnie's project becomes the talk of the school and everyone is fascinated by it. She even gets interviewed for the local newspaper because of it.
Feeling defeated and embarrassed, Kevin and Paul decide to sabotage Winnie's project by pouring honey all over her display. However, their plan backfires when the honey attracts a swarm of bees and Winnie ends up getting stung. Kevin and Paul feel terrible about what they have done and they decide to make it up to her by helping her clean up the mess and reorganize her project display.
In the end, all three of them end up winning first place for their respective projects and their science teacher is proud of them all. The episode ends with Kevin reflecting on the fact that sometimes the most unexpected things can surprise you and how he learned a valuable lesson about the importance of teamwork and being a good friend.
"Goose Grease" is a heartwarming and funny episode about the ups and downs of adolescence and the importance of supporting each other. The episode highlights the thrill of competition but also shows the consequences of sabotage and the redemption that can come from admitting mistakes and making amends.
