With Paul's encouragement, Kevin decides to take drastic action. He sneaks into the extra room when Karen is out and sets up a fake ghost, using a sheet and some fishing wire. When Karen comes home and sees the apparition, she screams and runs out of the house, convinced that the room is haunted. Kevin triumphantly declares that the room is now his, and Karen concedes defeat.

As the episode concludes, Kevin revels in his victory, but also realizes that he has pushed his relationship with Karen to the breaking point. He begins to understand that growing up means letting go of some things, and that he needs to learn how to compromise and share with his family. He takes down the fake ghost and clears out some of his stuff, making room for Karen to move in as well.
