Ep 1. Salt Flat Rod

Set in the high-octane world of custom rat rods, Vegas Rat Rods is a thrilling reality TV series that follows the extraordinary lives of a talented team of car builders in Las Vegas as they turn junk into priceless automotive treasures. In season 1 episode 1, entitled "Salt Flat Rod," Steve Darnell and his crew at Welder Up take on an epic challenge to build a rat rod that can break the land-speed record on the Bonneville Salt Flats.

The team immediately starts brainstorming design ideas and decides to go with a 1928 Dodge sedan as the base for their build. They need a car that's aerodynamic, sturdy, and powerful enough to push through the salt flats' unpredictable terrain. So they strip the Dodge down to its frame and get to work, welding and cutting until they have a sleek, low-to-the-ground machine that looks like something straight out of a Mad Max movie.

Along the way, the team faces several challenges, including figuring out how to cram a powerful engine into a small space without sacrificing speed or safety. They also have to come up with a way to keep the car's weight down, as every extra pound could significantly slow the vehicle down. In the end, they decide to replace the car's heavy steel body with a lightweight fiberglass shell, which reduces the car's weight by nearly 1,000 pounds.

The team puts in long hours in their garage, welding and grinding and testing until they have a car that's ready for the salt flats. But the true test comes when they drive the car out to Bonneville and put it through its paces on the flats themselves. With the client watching nervously from the sidelines, Steve takes the car out for a test run, pushing it to its limits and seeing if it can handle the punishing terrain.

As the episode comes to a close, viewers are left on the edge of their seats as the team prepares to make its final run on the salt flats. Will the car be fast enough to break the record?
