Without A Trace is an American television show that revolves around the FBI's missing persons unit that is tasked with investigating cases of people who have gone suddenly missing with no apparent trace. The show follows the team as they try to gather enough information about the missing person to figure out what happened to them and bring them home to their loved ones.
The twelfth episode of the first season of Without A Trace is entitled "Underground Railroad" and follows the team as they investigate the case of a young African-American boy named Cameron. Cameron has gone missing from his home in a predominantly African-American neighborhood and the team is called in to help find him.
As the team starts their investigation, they find out that Cameron is a highly intelligent boy who has been skipping grades at school. They also discover that he has been working on a history project about the Underground Railroad, an escape network by which slaves in the southern states of the US were helped to escape to freedom in the northern states or Canada before the Civil War.
The team begins to consider that Cameron may have run away from home with the idea of following in the footsteps of Harriet Tubman, the African American abolitionist and political activist who helped free hundreds of slaves using the Underground Railroad. The team, therefore, follows up on this theory and begins to search the underground tunnels that were once used by the railroad network, along with other possible routes he may have taken.
As the team continues to investigate, they find out that Cameron's father is a successful businessman who has been putting a lot of pressure on his son to succeed at school and in life. They also discover that Cameron's mother has been struggling with addiction, and her getting sober could mean the difference between life and death for her son.
As the team investigates further, they begin to suspect that Cameron may not have run away, but may have been kidnapped instead. They, therefore, race against time to locate Cameron before it's too late.
Throughout the episode, the team faces several challenges, including dealing with uncooperative witnesses, dead-end leads, and the fact that Cameron's parents seem to have different views on how to handle the situation. However, with each challenge they encounter, the team becomes more and more determined to find Cameron and bring him home safe.
In the end, the team manages to locate Cameron, but not without having to make a difficult decision. The team must decide whether to follow protocol or act quickly to save Cameron’s life. The decision they make could risk Cameron’s safety or lead them to a happy reunion.
Overall, the "Underground Railroad" is a gripping episode that delves into issues of race, addiction, and familial pressure. The episode showcases the team's determination to solve each case they are given and highlights the importance of a united front when trying to find a missing person.
