Ben Cartwright and his sons, Adam, Hoss, and Little Joe, own a sprawling ranch called the Ponderosa in the wild west town of Virginia City. In season 6, episode 3 titled "The Wild One," the Cartwrights find themselves dealing with a notorious outlaw named Johnny Logan.

As the episode begins, Johnny Logan has just been released from prison after serving five years for a bank robbery. His former partner in crime, Chuck Garvey, has been waiting for his release and is eager to start up their thieving ways once again. However, Logan has changed during his time in prison and wants nothing to do with Garvey or a life of crime.

When Logan arrives in Virginia City, he quickly finds work at the local stable and impresses Ben with his skills as a horse trainer. However, Garvey is still determined to convince Logan to help him with a new scheme. Garvey plans to rob the bank again, but this time they'll use dynamite to blow open the safe. While Logan wants nothing to do with the plan, he's hesitant to turn in his former partner to the authorities.

Meanwhile, Little Joe is tasked with delivering a hefty sum of money to the bank for his father. When Logan overhears the plan, he decides to help Little Joe by acting as a decoy, leading Garvey and his gang away from town. Logan hopes this will buy him time to convince Garvey to give up his life of crime and start anew.

As the plan unfolds, the Cartwrights are left to deal with the aftermath of the bank robbery and the damage left in its wake. Ben is particularly concerned with the safety of his family and vows to do whatever it takes to bring Garvey and his gang to justice. Adam and Hoss, meanwhile, are determined to help Little Joe track down Logan and bring him back to the Ponderosa.

As the Cartwrights search for Logan, they encounter a series of obstacles and setbacks, including a dangerous river crossing and a group of horse thieves. Along the way, they learn more about Logan's past and the reasons behind his decision to turn his life around.

In the end, the Cartwrights are able to capture Garvey and his gang and turn them over to the authorities. Logan, however, remains on the run, determined to continue his new life far away from his former partner and a life of crime.
