As Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 3 episode 8 called "Ava" begins, we see Terry leaving the precinct in a rush after receiving a call from his brother-in-law, Zeke Rivera, who tells him that his wife, Sharon, is in labor with their third child Ava, and they need his help.

Meanwhile, at the precinct, Holt is interviewing candidates for a new assistant, as Gina has quit. Meanwhile, Boyle is upset at his girlfriend Genevieve, who is moving to live in Latvia and they have a rocky relationship.

Terry is on the way to the hospital, but when he makes a quick stop to buy some candy from a bodega, he gets stopped and harassed by a cop, who accuses him of stealing the candy and uses excessive force during the pat-down. Terry records the encounter on his phone, but the cop sees him and takes the phone and damages it. Terry is humiliated and angry about the incident.

When Terry arrives at the hospital, he finds out that Sharon has had a perfect delivery, but his brother-in-law is very nervous and overprotective- he doesn't want Terry to touch Ava, as he doesn't want anyone to get her sick. This frustrates Terry, as he feels helpless and wants to bond with his new niece.

Back at the precinct, Jake and Rosa investigate a robbery at a jewelry store, which leads them to an unlikely suspect. They also try to help Boyle figure out his relationship problems, but he's all over the place and doesn't listen to any of their advice.

Meanwhile, Holt is not impressed with any of the assistant candidates, until he meets Gina's one-night stand, Teddy, who surprisingly turns out to be a great asset to the team.

As Terry continues to struggle with his brother-in-law's overprotectiveness, he gets the news that the cop who abused him has been suspended. Terry struggles with dealing with the anger he feels towards the cop and the system, and wants justice for what happened to him.

In the end, Ava is released from the hospital, and Terry finally gets to bond with her after sharing a heartfelt speech with his brother-in-law about being a father.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 3 episode 8 "Ava" is a heartwarming and important episode about police brutality and the impact it can have on individuals and their families. It also delves into themes of family, relationships, and the struggles of new parenthood.
