In season 21 episode 3 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, named "Cross-Country Classics," host Guy Fieri is hitting the road to sample some of America's most iconic and beloved dishes. From coast to coast, he visits classic diners, drive-ins, and dives that have been serving up their signature dishes for decades.
First, Guy travels to the East Coast to visit a diner in New Jersey that's been around since 1939. Here, he tries the classic pork roll, egg, and cheese sandwich, as well as the hearty corned beef hash. Next, he heads to a Baltimore institution that's been serving up crab cakes for over 50 years. Guy samples the restaurant's famous jumbo lump crab cake piled high with fresh local crab meat.
In North Carolina, Guy stops by a barbecue joint that's been smoking their meat low and slow since the 1970s. He tries their famous chopped pork, which is served with classic southern sides like hush puppies and collard greens. In the Midwest, Guy visits a classic drive-in that's been around since the 1950s. He tries their famous root beer float, made with homemade root beer.
On the West Coast, Guy visits a Los Angeles institution that's been serving up pastrami sandwiches since 1947. He tries the pastrami piled high on rye bread with spicy mustard and a pickle on the side. Finally, in Arizona, Guy visits a diner that's been serving up classic breakfast dishes since the 1940s. He tries the restaurant's famous Spanish omelet, made with spicy sausage, peppers, and onions.
Throughout his journey, Guy is blown away by the passion and dedication of the restaurant owners and chefs he meets. Whether it's the family-run diner in New Jersey or the Baltimore crab cake institution, each restaurant has a story to tell and a unique perspective on what makes their classic dish so special.
With mouthwatering dishes and fascinating stories, "Cross-Country Classics" is a must-see episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives for any foodie or lover of classic American cuisine.
