In season 23, episode 3 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives titled "Tri-Continent Cuisine," host Guy Fieri travels to different parts of the world to showcase cuisine from three different continents - Africa, Asia, and South America.
The first stop on Fieri's trip is a South African restaurant in Los Angeles where he samples popular dishes such as peri-peri chicken, chakalaka (a vegetable relish), and boerewors (a type of sausage). The restaurant owner, who grew up in South Africa, talks about how her mother's cooking inspired her to open a restaurant and share her culture with others.
Next on the itinerary is an Asian-inspired restaurant in Portland, Oregon, where Fieri tastes a variety of dishes that fuse together different Asian flavors such as Korean, Thai, and Vietnamese. The owner, who is of Korean descent, combines her family recipes with new techniques to create a unique dining experience.
Lastly, Fieri travels to a family-owned restaurant in Chicago that specializes in South American cuisine. There, he discovers the flavors of Peruvian and Brazilian food, including ceviche, feijao tropeiro (a type of black bean stew), and picanha (a type of grilled beef). The owner, who emigrated from Peru, talks about how her restaurant is a way to bring her culture to others and keep it alive.
Throughout the episode, Fieri meets with the restaurant owners and learns about their culinary traditions and techniques. He also highlights the unique ingredients and spices used in each type of cuisine, and how they are blended together to create dishes that are flavorful and satisfying.
