In the 7th episode of season 4 of Pawn Stars, entitled "Pom Pom Pawn," the staff at the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop are presented with a plethora of unique and unusual items to consider for purchase.
The episode begins with Corey "Big Hoss" Harrison inspecting a vintage Woolworth's ten cent toy called a "Pom Pom Gun" that shoots brightly colored pom poms. The owner is looking for $700 for the toy, but Corey is hesitant to take a chance on it considering the niche market for vintage toys and the potentially limited resale value.
Next, the show introduces a rare piece of firefighting history: a 19th-century smoke mask. Dating back to the 1800s, the mask was intended to protect firefighters from the smoke and toxic fumes that resulted from blazing fires. The seller is looking for $1,500 for the item, but expert appraiser Mark Hall-Patton cautions Rick Harrison about the mask's potential for containing asbestos.
In another section of the store, Oliver is presented with a unique piece of World War II history: a German Army motorcycle with a sidecar. The motorcycle, a 1943 NSU Kettenkrad, was known for its maneuverability and versatility on the battlefield and is rare among collectors. The owner is asking for $37,000, but with its heavy restoration and replacement parts, Oliver is hesitant to make an offer.
Later in the episode, the shop receives some rock-n-roll history in the form of a signed guitar from the late Eddie Van Halen. The seller wants $25,000 for the guitar, which includes a signed case and a certificate of authenticity. The signature is confirmed as authentic by experts, but Rick is cautious when considering the guitar's resale potential.
Finally, Rick is presented with a unique piece of Western folklore in the form of a Chimayo Blanket. Originating from a small village in New Mexico, the Chimayo Blanket has a rich cultural history, and this particular example is more than one hundred years old. The owner is asking for $2,500, but Rick's knowledge of the textiles market makes him wary of the blanket's potential for containing the cheaper, less valuable "Jemez" wool.
Throughout the episode, the staff at the World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop expertly appraise each item and negotiate with sellers to reach a fair deal. Along the way, they provide fascinating insight into the history and cultural significance of each item, making "Pom Pom Pawn" a must-watch for any history or antique enthusiast.
