Ep 4. Go Where I Send Thee...

During Sleepy Hollow season 2 episode 4, "Go Where I Send Thee…," Ichabod Crane gets a surprise visit from his former fiancée, Mary Wells. She arrives under the guise of attending a conference in the area, but it quickly becomes apparent that she has an ulterior motive. Mary is actually an agent for a secret society called the Hellfire Club, which believes that the apocalypse is imminent and that they can prevent it by controlling the paranormal forces that the Witnesses have been dealing with.

Mary informs Ichabod that he and Abbie must retrieve an ancient artifact, the shard of Anubis, that has been hidden in an underground tomb for centuries. The Hellfire Club believes that the shard has the power to control demonic entities and can be an asset in their efforts to prevent the apocalypse. This proves incredibly problematic because the underground tomb is actually a prison built by Katrina's coven to contain one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, Death. Ichabod and Abbie agree to work with Mary to retrieve the shard, but they quickly realize that the Hellfire Club's intentions may be less than noble.

Meanwhile, Katrina is grappling with her new role as Henry's mother. She begins to question the morality of raising a child to perpetuate the cycle of death and destruction that the Horseman represents. Her doubts are amplified by an unexpected reunion with Abigail Adams, who implores Katrina to turn against Moloch and join forces with her against the evil forces that threaten Sleepy Hollow.

As the team embarks on their mission to retrieve the shard of Anubis, they are ambushed by a group of mercenaries hired by the Hellfire Club. They are able to fend them off, but not without casualties. The team is forced to rely on one another in ways they haven't before, creating an even greater sense of camaraderie among them.

After acquiring the shard, they confront the imprisoned Death and are faced with a decision that will have lasting consequences. They can give the shard to the Hellfire Club, allowing them to have unprecedented power over the supernatural realm, or they can destroy the shard, relinquishing any possible leverage and allowing Death to remain in his prison, hoping that Katrina's coven can maintain the lock. As always, Ichabod and Abbie are faced with an impossible decision that could have catastrophic consequences.

"Go Where I Send Thee..." is a fast-paced and emotionally wrought episode that further develops the characters and their relationships while keeping the viewer on the edge of their seat with its supernatural themes and high stakes. The episode also features a stunning performance from guest star, Michelle Trachtenberg, who provides a complex and layered portrayal of Mary Wells. Overall, this episode is a highlight of the season and a must-watch for fans of the series.
