Su Baek-hyang, The King's Daughter is a historical Korean drama that revolves around the story of two sisters, Su Baek-hyang and Su Baek-ryung, who are born to a family of nobles in the Goguryeo dynasty. Episode 1 starts with the birth of the two sisters. However, their birth is not a happy occasion as their mother, Lady Hae-geum, dies during childbirth. Their father, Lord Jung-hyun, is grief-stricken and blames the midwife for his wife's death.

As the years pass, the sisters grow up to be very different from each other. Su Baek-hyang is kind and gentle, while Su Baek-ryung is cunning and selfish. One day, Lady Park demands that Lord Jung-hyun hold a ceremony to honor her deceased husband, who was a general in the army. Lord Jung-hyun agrees, and the sisters are tasked with preparing for the ceremony. Su Baek-hyang works hard to make sure everything is perfect, but Su Baek-ryung only thinks about herself and her own desires.

On the day of the ceremony, Su Baek-hyang discovers that Lady Park has tampered with the offerings and intends to blame her for it. Su Baek-hyang realizes that Lady Park is trying to get rid of her and decides to leave the ceremony. However, Su Baek-ryung tries to stop her and a fight ensues.

Meanwhile, the King of Goguryeo, King Pyeongwon, is facing a threat from the neighboring kingdom of Baekje. King Pyeongwon's second wife, Lady Yusu, who is originally from Baekje, has been secretly sending information to her homeland. The Baekje army is planning to invade Goguryeo, and Lady Yusu wants to use the opportunity to take revenge on her husband.

Lord Jung-hyun is tasked with guarding the border and defending against the Baekje army. However, he is betrayed by one of his own soldiers, who reveals the location of the Goguryeo army to the Baekje army. The Goguryeo army is caught off guard and is defeated in battle.

As the episode comes to an end, Lady Yusu reveals her true allegiance to King Pyeongwon and begs for forgiveness. Lord Jung-hyun is captured by the Baekje army and is taken away as a prisoner of war. Su Baek-hyang and Su Baek-ryung both witness the chaos and uncertainty of their kingdom and realize that their lives will never be the same again.

Overall, Episode 1 of Su Baek-hyang, The King's Daughter sets the stage for a complex and intriguing story about family, loyalty, and power in ancient Korea. The episode introduces the main characters and their relationships, establishes the historical context of the story, and sets up several key conflicts that will drive the plot forward.
