Ep 5. The Portrait

Neal and Peter are once again on the hunt for a stolen painting, this time a portrait of a woman, by renowned artist Francesco Salieri. The painting was stolen from the collection of wealthy art enthusiast Abigail Jones. Neal and Peter begin their investigation by interviewing the guests at a gallery opening where the painting was last seen.

Their first lead takes them to an art restorer, who claims to have purchased the painting at an estate sale. After examining the restoration work, Neal and Peter determine that the woman in the portrait has been tampered with, and the painting is in fact a forgery.

Their next lead takes them to the owner of a small art gallery, who insists that he did not steal the painting, but knows the identity of the thief. He reveals that the painting was stolen by a former employee, who was recently released from prison. Neal and Peter track down the ex-employee, but he insists that he did not steal the painting either.

Meanwhile, Neal's past comes back to haunt him when his former girlfriend, a wealthy widow named Sara, returns to New York. Neal struggles with his feelings for Sara, as well as her suspicions that he may have ulterior motives for wanting to reconnect with her.

As the investigation continues, Neal and Peter uncover a web of lies and deceit involving art dealers, a corrupt art appraiser, and a dangerous criminal with ties to organized crime.

In the end, Neal and Peter are able to locate the true thief and recover the stolen painting. Neal also realizes the importance of honesty and comes clean to Sara about his past. The episode ends with Neal and Peter sharing a moment of camaraderie and acknowledging the mutual respect they have developed for each other.
