A Spike reality TV original series which debuted in 2009, 4th and Long chronicles a competition pitting 12 hopeful athletes, six wide receivers and six defensive backs, against each other. The winner of the contest receives a spot in the Dallas Cowboys training camp and could even go on to secure a chance to actually play for the Cowboys. Former Cowboy player and fan-favorite Bill Bates coaches the defensive backs, while career coach Joe Avezzano mentors the wide receivers.

The players come from a variety of athletic backgrounds, not all of them football. For instance, while Jesse Holley had previously failed a tryout with the Bengals and Steve "Speedy" Gonzalez was an Arena League player with the Manchester Wolves, Preston McGann had not played high school football and was instead a baseball player. The show features guest appearances from NFL greats such as former star wide receiver Jerry Rice and ex-Cowboy Moose Johnston.
