Alias Smith and Jones is an American western television series that aired on ABC network from January 1971 to January 1973. The show revolves around two outlaws, Hannibal Heyes (alias Joshua Smith) and Kid Curry (alias Thaddeus Jones) who are trying to go straight and earn pardons, but their past keeps catching up with them.

Episode 7 of Season 1, titled "Return to Devil's Hole," sees Heyes and Curry revisiting a place from their past, Devil's Hole, which is a hideout for their old gang. The episode starts with the duo riding into a small town where they learn that their old gang has been reformed, and one of its members, Wheat Carlson, has been captured and is being held in prison. The gang is looking to break Wheat out of jail and is seeking Heyes and Curry's help.

Despite having gone straight, Heyes and Curry still have ties to their old gang and can't turn down the request for help. They agree to aid in the prison breakout but devise a plan to make sure no one gets hurt in the process. They decide to use a fake gun made of wood and paint to threaten the sheriff into giving them the keys to Wheat's cell. Once Wheat is freed, the gang heads back to Devil's Hole where they plan their next heist.

However, things don't go as planned, and Heyes and Curry soon find out that the gang has more sinister plans than just the heist. The leader of the group, Harry Briscoe, has decided to use the heist as a cover-up for his real intentions of killing Heyes and Curry. Briscoe believes that Heyes and Curry have all the loot from their last heist hidden somewhere, and he wants it back.

Briscoe enlists the help of a woman named Barbara who is serving as a distraction for Heyes and Curry while his men search their belongings for the missing loot. Heyes knows something is wrong and confronts Briscoe, demanding to know why they are being targeted. Briscoe tells him about the missing loot and how he believes Heyes and Curry are the only ones who know where it is.

Heyes and Curry tell Briscoe the truth about the loot. They had hidden it in a safe place and didn't want to tell the gang about it to protect the money from getting stolen. They offer to take Briscoe to the loot, but in return, they want the gang's help to rob a bank. Briscoe agrees, and the four of them set off to retrieve the loot while the rest of the gang prepares for the bank heist.

When they reach the hiding place, Heyes and Curry open the safe to reveal the loot and give it to Briscoe. However, once he has the money, Briscoe double-crosses them, leaving them stranded in the middle of nowhere. Heyes and Curry manage to hitch a ride on a passing stagecoach and head off to the town where the bank robbery is taking place.

Once at the bank, Heyes and Curry come up with a plan to stop the robbery and catch the gang members. During the heist, Heyes manages to outwit the gang and gets the drop on them. But just as they're about to make the arrest, the sheriff shows up and arrests everyone, including Heyes and Curry, who are mistaken for the robbers.

The episode ends with Heyes and Curry in jail, awaiting trial for the bank robbery, with no way to prove their innocence. It's a cliffhanger ending that leaves viewers wondering what will happen next.
