In this episode of Beat Bobby Flay, titled "Gobbled Up," two chefs go head-to-head in the hopes of defeating culinary superstar Bobby Flay. First up is chef Joseph Wrede, the executive chef and owner of Joseph's of Santa Fe, a restaurant that specializes in sustainable and locally sourced ingredients. Wrede's opponent is chef Christina Dimacali, the executive chef of Farm & Table in Albuquerque, New Mexico, who is known for her innovative takes on traditional dishes.
The competition begins with a blind taste test in which Bobby must guess the secret ingredient in each chef's dish. Wrede chooses to showcase his skills with a classic Thanksgiving staple: turkey. He prepares a turkey roulade stuffed with sausage and chestnuts, served alongside a sweet potato puree and roasted Brussels sprouts. Dimacali's dish is a bit more unconventional, featuring a grilled octopus tentacle with a pomegranate and citrus glaze, served alongside a shaved fennel and orange salad.
After the blind taste test, the chefs are given an hour to prepare their signature dishes. Wrede chooses to feature New Mexico flavors in his dish, creating a seared elk tenderloin with green chile polenta and a wild mushroom ragout. Dimacali's dish is inspired by her Filipino heritage, featuring a braised pork belly adobo with a pineapple and jalapeño salsa and a coconut rice cake.
As the clock expires, the dishes are presented to the judges, who must decide which chef will move on to face Bobby Flay. The judges for this episode are restaurateur Stephen Starr, chef and author Damaris Phillips, and comedian Jay Pharoah.
Ultimately, only one chef is chosen to compete against Bobby Flay in the final round. Will it be Wrede, with his locally sourced ingredients and Southwestern flavors? Or will it be Dimacali, with her innovative take on Filipino cuisine? The final showdown promises to be an intense battle between two talented chefs, each determined to come out on top and show Bobby Flay who's boss.
