The episode starts with Christie traveling to Houston, Texas where she visits the popular restaurant, Hugo’s, to try their award-winning guacamole. She meets the head chef and learns about the ingredients that make their recipe unique. She is left impressed by the taste of the dish and moves on to her next destination.
Next, she travels to Chicago, Illinois where she stops at the renowned Frontera Grill, owned by the famous chef Rick Bayless. Christie gets to taste Rick’s signature guacamole dish, which consists of fresh avocados mixed with serrano chili, onion, and cilantro. She is blown away by the freshness of the dish and notes that the dish was so good that it was almost gone before she could take a second bite.
After Chicago, Christie travels to Los Angeles, California, where she visits the Venice Beach area, and heads straight to a traditional Mexican restaurant known as La Cabana. Here, she tries the restaurant's iconic guacamole dish that comes with plantain chips. The plantain chips bring a unique flavor to the guacamole that Christie has never experienced before in her travels. She is thrilled by the combination of the two and admits that it is one of the best guacamole dishes she has ever tasted.
From Los Angeles, Christie travels to Miami, Florida, where she visits chef Jose Andres’ restaurant named Mercado Little Spain. She gets to taste their guacamole dish which has a Spanish twist. The unique avocado dip is served with chermoula sauce adding a distinct flavor and spice to the dish that Christie finds delicious. She also tries another dish on their menu, a guacamole croqueta, which is a fried croquette filled with guacamole. Christie finds the dish an innovative interpretation of the traditional guacamole dish.
In the final leg of her journey, Christie travels to New York City, where she visits the famed Mexican restaurant named Cosme. It is here that she tries one of the most expensive guacamole dishes in America. Cosme's guacamole dish has a unique twist – it contains black garlic. The dish is pricier than what she had on her journey earlier in the episode, but Christie finds the dish worth it, admitting the taste of black garlic adds something different to the dish.
Throughout the episode, Christie meets a diverse range of chefs and learns about their individual take on what makes a good guacamole dish. She highlights that while guacamole is a simple dish to make, the ingredients can make or break the dish. She finds that every restaurant she visits has a unique take on the dish, and it's hard for her to determine a clear winner.
In the end, she states that all the guacamole dishes she tried were delicious and states that it is tough to pick the best dish, as they all had such unique flavors. However, she concludes that her journey has been an eye-opener, and she has learned a lot about the guacamole dish and all the unique flavors it can bring.
