On this episode of Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations, host Andrew Zimmern takes viewers on a culinary journey to Toronto, Canada. As Canada's largest city, Toronto has a diverse food scene that reflects the many cultures that call it home.
Zimmern begins his exploration of Toronto by visiting St. Lawrence Market, a popular indoor market that has been in operation for over 200 years. Here, he samples some of the market's most iconic foods, including peameal bacon sandwiches and olive oils from around the world. Next, Zimmern heads to Kensington Market, a vibrant neighborhood known for its eclectic mix of food vendors and shops. Here, he samples Jamaican patties and Chinese pork buns, two popular street foods that reflect Toronto's multicultural identity.
Moving on to more traditional Canadian fare, Zimmern visits a local butcher to learn about the country's love of beef. He tries a beef tongue sandwich and then heads to a local brewery to wash it down with a pint of Canadian beer. Later in the episode, Zimmern explores the city's seafood scene, sampling fresh oysters and visiting a local fish and chips shop.
No trip to Toronto would be complete without trying the city's namesake food: the Toronto-style pizza. Zimmern visits a local pizzeria to learn about the unique way the city prepares its pizza. He also tastes some of Toronto's other beloved comfort foods, including poutine and butter tarts.
Throughout the episode, Zimmern highlights the chefs, food producers, and vendors that make Toronto's food scene so diverse and delicious.
