Andrew Zimmern heads to Italy's stunning Amalfi Coast to sample the unique and diverse cuisine found along the Mediterranean coastline. Starting in Naples, he tries the world-famous Neapolitan pizza and then moves on to taste the local mozzarella cheese before heading off to the coastal town of Minori. There, he visits a family-owned liqueur distillery that produces limoncello and then samples fresh anchovy dishes at a waterfront kitchen.
Next on the itinerary is a trip to the picturesque fishing village of Cetara. Andrew visits a factory that produces colatura, an ancient fish sauce similar to the more commonly known Asian fish sauce. He then participates in the traditional tuna-fishing methods that have been employed in Cetara for centuries. Swimming in the open Mediterranean sea and experiencing the local fishing techniques first hand, he finds himself in awe of the abundant sea life of the region.
In order to balance out the seafood-centric diet of the coast, Andrew heads inland for some hearty meat dishes in the Campania region. He samples the famous salami from the town of Sarno and a tasty meatball from Nocera. The lavish meals are unusual not just in their preparation, but also the combination of sweet and sour flavors that showcase the diversity of Italian cuisine.
Finally, Andrew concludes his journey in the town of Ravello, which towers over the Amalfi Coast. Here he visits one of the most famous restaurants in Italy, experiencing the high culture that the region has to offer. In the end, the Amalfi Coast proves to be an ideal location for Andrew to explore the wide array of culinary delights that represent the extraordinary gastronomic landscape of Italy.
