Brenda's concerns revolve around Megan being lonely or not keeping up with the household chores. However, Megan is determined to prove her worth and capability to handle homeownership on her own.
Elsewhere, Elena and her boyfriend Jared face a hurdle in their long-distance relationship. They have been dating for almost a year, but Jared lives in Arizona while Elena lives in California. Elena's mother Kris worries about the distance affecting their relationship. To help bridge the gap, Kris plans a surprise visit for Jared to California so that he can spend time with Elena.
John and his mother Joyce have a heart-to-heart conversation about John's future plans after his high school graduation. Joyce is worried about John's future and the fact that he might not be able to find a job. She encourages John to learn vocational skills so that he can be independent. During the conversation, John reveals that he wants to become an actor, which takes Joyce by surprise. She expresses her concerns but is eventually supportive of his dreams.
Meanwhile, Steven is introduced to a new love interest, Samantha, through his friends Rachel and Kris. Samantha is also a person with Down syndrome, and her parents are concerned about letting her date someone who is over the age of 21. They eventually meet Steven and are happy with him as a choice for Samantha.
The friends also gather for a fun day of kayaking and paddleboarding, where they enjoy each other's company and support each other as they face challenges.
