Andie, feeling neglected by Pacey, turns to Jack McPhee for support. Jack agrees to accompany her to a dance at the high school, but things take a turn for the worse when Pacey shows up unexpectedly. Andie is hurt that Pacey is not making an effort to be with her, and Pacey is hurt that Andie seems to be moving on without him.

At the end of the episode, Joey decides to take her boss up on her offer for a promotion, despite her reservations. Pacey, after reflecting on his relationship with Andie, decides to break up with her, realizing that he needs to focus on himself and his own goals. Joey, Dawson, and Jen Lindley, who has her own personal issues going on in the episode, all find comfort and support in each other's company.

Overall, "Uncharted Waters" explores themes of responsibility, growth, and self-discovery. The characters are all struggling in their own ways, but are learning to lean on each other for support and guidance.
