Ep 8. The Reluctant Hero

As the fall dance approaches, Pacey volunteers himself to help with the preparations, but quickly regrets his decision when he realizes how much work is involved. Meanwhile, a new rival for Joey's affections emerges in the form of A.J., a smart and charming college student who catches her eye. Dawson, still reeling from his recent breakup with Jen, struggles to find a date for the dance, but eventually ends up asking Joey to go with him as friends. The two spend the evening exchanging meaningful looks and dancing together, but Joey eventually confesses that she has feelings for someone else. In a dramatic turn of events, Pacey ends up saving the night when the power goes out due to a storm, and his heroic actions win him the admiration of his classmates. As the dance comes to a close, A.J. invites Joey to join him for a cup of coffee and she happily accepts, while Pacey silently watches from afar.
