- June 11, 2012
In season 2012, episode 17 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, host Guy Fieri sets out to find the best Serious Sandwiches. With his signature red Camaro, Guy travels across the United States to uncover the most mouth-watering sandwich joints the country has to offer.
First up on the list is Slater's 50/50 in Anaheim Hills, California. The restaurant is known for its famous 50/50 burger, which is made with 50% beef and 50% bacon. But for Guy, it's all about the brioche bun, which is toasted to perfection. Next on the list is Ike's Place in San Francisco, California. With over 800 different sandwich combinations, it's hard to choose just one. But Guy goes for the "Name of the Girl I'm Dating" sandwich, which is packed with chicken, avocado, and Ike's secret "dirty sauce."
Guy heads down to Portland, Oregon next to try out Lardo's Pork Meatball Banh Mi sandwich, full of spicy Sriracha, pickled vegetables, and juicy meatballs. From there, he makes his way over to Miami, Florida to try the famous "Ugly" sandwich at La Moon in Miami, Florida. This overstuffed sandwich is filled with chorizo, bacon, ham, and a fried egg all melted together under a slice of mozzarella.
The next stop on Guy's journey is to Cleveland, Ohio, where he visits Melt Bar and Grilled. Their Heart Attack sandwich contains 13 different types of cheese, piled high on a grilled cheese sandwich. Afterwards, he travels to Seattle, Washington to try the famous "Duck Confit" sandwich from Skillet Diner. The sandwich is filled with a duck leg confit, fried egg, arugula, and a sweet cranberry compote.
The final two stops on the list bring Guy to the Northeast, as he makes his way to Boston, Massachusetts and Providence, Rhode Island. In Boston, he visits The Regal Beagle and tries the "B.L.T.O.A." sandwich, which is made with a fried green tomato and topped off with homemade sriracha mayo. In Providence, he visits Wes' Rib House for the Rib Tip sandwich, which is made with tender rib tips and topped off with a sweet and tangy barbecue sauce.
Throughout the episode, Guy samples each sandwich and meets with the owners to learn about the history and inspiration behind each signature dish. Viewers can expect to see plenty of mouth-watering close-ups highlighting the unique flavors and textures of each sandwich. Whether you're a fan of classic grilled cheese or adventurous flavor combinations, Serious Sandwiches has something for every type of sandwich lover.
