Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives Season 2012 Episode 19 Belly Up
- June 25, 2012
In season 2012 episode 19 of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, host Guy Fieri travels to three different locations to sample the best in belly-busting cuisine.
First, he visits Chicago, Illinois to check out a restaurant called The Depot American Diner. The diner is run by a father-son duo and serves up classic American comfort food. Guy tries their famous biscuits and gravy, which are made from scratch every morning, and their pork belly benedict, which features tender pork belly and a perfectly poached egg.
Next, Guy heads to Charlotte, North Carolina to visit a dive bar called The Penguin. Despite its slightly rundown appearance, The Penguin is known for its incredible burgers, which have won multiple awards. Guy tries their famous "big block" burger, which comes with two huge patties, as well as their pimento cheese fries, which are smothered in a creamy cheese sauce.
Finally, Guy travels to Portland, Oregon to visit a restaurant called Pine State Biscuits. This southern-style breakfast joint specializes in flaky, buttery biscuits and hearty breakfast sandwiches. Guy tries their popular chicken biscuit, which consists of a fried chicken breast sandwiched between two biscuits and smothered in creamy gravy. He also samples their spicy pimento cheese biscuit, which is a personal favorite of the owners.
Throughout the episode, Guy marvels at the huge portions and delicious flavors of the food he tries. He also chats with the owners of each restaurant to learn about their unique stories and culinary backgrounds. Whether he's indulging in biscuits and gravy in Chicago, diving into a massive burger in North Carolina, or sampling southern-style breakfast sandwiches in Oregon, Guy is always in search of the best in belly-busting cuisine.
