Father Ted Season 3 Episode 5 Escape for Victory

Ted and Dougal become determined to win the annual All-Priests Over-75s Five-a-Side Football Challenge Match against Rugged Island, despite the fact that they are both terrible at football. As they try to train for the match, they struggle to even pass the ball correctly and end up getting into arguments with each other.

Meanwhile, Father Jack is being kept under strict observation by a nurse who is trying to clean up his foul habits, including his constant drinking and smoking. Despite her best efforts, Father Jack manages to sneak away from her and ends up at the local pub, where he becomes the star of a drinking competition.

Back at the parochial house, Ted and Dougal continue to train for the match, but things take a turn when they accidentally end up locked in the cellar together. As they search for a way to escape, they stumble upon an old radio which they use to try and keep up with the match. Though they are elated to hear that Rugged Island is winning at first, they soon discover that the radio is on a delay and they are actually several goals behind.

With no way out of the cellar, Ted and Dougal come up with a plan to try and turn things around for their team. They enlist the help of Father Jessup, a young priest who is new to the island and happens to be a former professional footballer. Though Father Jessup is initially reluctant to help the two bumbling priests, he agrees to help them out of pity.

As the match continues, the three priests find themselves up against a tough and aggressive Rugged Island team, but they manage to hold their own thanks to Father Jessup's skill and knowledge of the game. With only minutes left to play, the score is tied and it looks like it could go either way.

Just as it seems like their luck might be turning, Ted and Dougal hear a loud explosion from upstairs. They realize that their plan to close the chimney and create a diversion has backfired, and they've accidentally blown up the entire living room. As they rush upstairs to try and put out the fire, they leave Father Jessup alone on the pitch.

In the chaos, Father Jessup manages to score the winning goal for their team, but his success is short-lived as he realizes that he is now trapped on Craggy Island with Ted and Dougal forever. With the living room destroyed and Father Jack nowhere to be found, the three priests sit outside in the rain and reflect on the disaster that has just unfolded.

In the end, they manage to find some humor in the situation and agree to stick together no matter what. Though they may be the worst football team in the world, they are a family at the end of the day, and they will always be there to support each other through whatever challenges come their way.
