In the season 6 premiere of Food Paradise, the focus is on the Minnesota State Fair, one of the largest and most celebrated fairs in the United States. The episode dives into the unique and delicious food offerings that the fair is known for, showcasing a variety of iconic dishes and local favorites.
Hosted by Casey Webb, the episode begins with a traditional Minnesota breakfast – a savory and hearty cheese-filled breakfast sandwich called the "slammer." With a full stomach, Casey sets out to explore the fairgrounds and find the best food Minnesota has to offer.
First up, Casey visits a food stand that has been a fixture at the fair for over 60 years – Earl of Sandwich. This classic sandwich shop offers an impressive selection of deli sandwiches, but it's their roast beef and turkey sandwiches that steal the show. The sandwiches are piled high with fresh, juicy meat and come served with a side of nostalgia.
Next, Casey heads to Giggles Campfire Grill, a restaurant that serves up classic American comfort food with a twist. Their signature dish is the walleye sandwich, a local favorite made with a delicate and flavorful fish caught fresh from Minnesota's many lakes. The sandwich is topped off with a sweet and tangy cranberry mayo that perfectly complements the fish.
Moving on to more adventurous fare, Casey visits the O'Gara's at the Fair food truck, which specializes in Irish-inspired dishes. Their famous "Reuben sausage" is a delicious take on a classic Reuben sandwich, stuffed with corned beef, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese. For spice lovers, O'Gara's also offers a fiery "Sriracha dog" that packs a punch.
Just when Casey thinks he's seen it all, he discovers the fair's incredible selection of sweet treats. At the Sweet Martha's Cookie Jar stand, customers line up for their famous chocolate chip cookies, freshly baked and served in a bucket. Meanwhile, the Tom Thumb Donuts booth serves up miniature donuts that are a longstanding fair tradition.
The episode wraps up with a visit to the Minnesota Wine Country exhibit, where Casey gets a taste of local wines that perfectly complement all the fair's savory and sweet dishes. From juicy sandwiches to unique local twists, the Minnesota State Fair is a food paradise in its own right, and this episode does an excellent job of highlighting all its culinary treasures.
