In "Heroes Reborn" season 1 episode 3, titled "Under the Mask," the stakes are raised as the hunt for the mysterious evolved humans continues. Tommy (Robbie Kay), a high school student with the ability to teleport, is conflicted about whether he should use his powers for good or if he should hide them from the world. Meanwhile, Luke (Zachary Levi) and Joanne (Judi Shekoni), a couple seeking revenge for the loss of their son in the June 13th terrorist attacks, are hot on the trail of any evolved humans they can find, with the intent to kill them all.
Elsewhere, Miko (Kiki Sukezane) discovers that her mission to find her father is more challenging than she initially thought. Accompanied by the video game character Katana Girl, Miko is led to a strange facility where she must navigate through a dangerous obstacle course to reach her goal.
Tommy also finds himself drawn into a web of danger when he encounters Emily (Gatlin Green), a girl he's been crushing on, whose life is in danger due to her connection to the evolved humans. As he tries to save her, Tommy must also come to terms with his own identity as an evolved human and what that means for his future.
Meanwhile, Noah Bennet (Jack Coleman) continues his search for answers about the June 13th terrorist attacks and the role that evolved humans played. His investigation leads him to Erica (Rya Kihlstedt), a mysterious woman with her own agenda and a connection to the attacks.
In "Under the Mask," the characters are forced to confront their own fears and anxieties as they navigate a world that has turned against them. The episode ends with a shocking twist that sets the stage for future conflicts and reveals the true nature of some of the characters.
